Returned to Seattle today. Left Portland area at 9.45 am in the fog; arrived Kirkland about 2.30 pm.

For the first time (and it had to be the last day, of course!) I simultaneously felt the urge to take photos while driving, and was on a road smooth enough to allow this. Got some pics of the highways and the steel bridges that for me characterize I-5 in southern Washington.

I was halfway through unpacking the rig when I realized that I should write these last words which Im doing now. I still need to return the truck to Cruise America tomorrow, but this feels like the true end of the journey. The trip officially ended with the tripmeter on 2,004.6 miles. | Surprisingly symmetrical out and back: I hadnt expected the return mileage on the Interstate to be the same as the outbound.
| Summation | And I'm back where I started figuratively also. Perhaps thats probably too gloomy an assessment. The positive spin is that I went 360° around a spiral not a circle, so Im not quite back where I started. I had some good time, though the thought going back to the salt mines always cast a pall, and I failed to come up with a Next Big Idea. I pondered a lot, read less than Id hoped to, saw the scenery change driving down the coast, and Im one step further along the big journey. And I have a plan for where to aim the next footfall, though beyond that... | ||
