Black Lake was wonderful; I was sad to leave. I took a photo of the Marian shrine joust up the road from our site. Then we did some solid driving down I-5. S. took the first shift, then I did 90 minutes; S. did all the rest. Doing well in the indecisiveness stakes. Couldn't decide where to stop; S. decided to push through to Elkton. Left Olympia at 12.20 pm, arrived Elkton 6.03 pm. | ||
| Picture list: Wonderful Things |
Elkton seems great; best part of the adventure was driving through the dark winding hills in utter darkness (mega-pink sunset at around 4.30) to get here - and hear a little brook, kabbeling. | "Kabbel": Afrikaans word describing sound
of a gurgling stream. Actually, the little brook was a sodding great river, big and brown and boring - but presumably good fishing. |
|
| As S. pointed out, RV sites wouldn't exists without advertising (we found this place in Woodalls). It's a classic information economy: we paid Woodall for the information, and the park presumably paid them to be listed, at least to advertise. This the park ended up $16 richer (less the cost of Larry in RV 28). Perhaps advertising volume is an index of the an information economy. Not a lot of it in Stalinist Russia, a lot of it in Victorian England - note, information technology isn't necessary! | For more on Woodalls, see Park ratings. Larry seemed to be the resident park attendant. |

| RVs and Narrow boats: Compare and Contrast | The process of travelling in a canal boat is so much more pleasant; and the exciting interludes are pleasant (navigating a lock) rather than nerve wracking (articulated lorries passing in opposite directions at 65 mph on either side of you in the driving rain). But: a motorhome gets you places, and you can go (more or less) wherever you want. Just stay on the biggish roads... see the cultural comparison, nudge, nudge? | ||
