Day 2

Columbus Park
Olympia WA
Left Kirkland just after 2 pm - not bad, given that the plan was to leave at 1 pm.  Drove 2 1/2 hours, now stopped at Columbia Campground at Black Lake, just west of Olympia.
Beautiful lake - just a pity Americans don't have Rights of Way around bodies of water. Montreux, for example, is a wonderful place because one can walk as far as you like around the lake. And the Promenade Anglais in Nice! Here, you go only a few feet and then it's the next guy's turf. But - they do Independence so well! Footloose - lots of motels, RV parks, people on the road. No self-catering cottages, though. Turns out the self-catering market is served by motels offering kitchenette rooms.
This is a "2-star" park - great blue collar place. Wonderful for an intellectual like me...  I went for a walk by the lake, and S. took a ride on the swings. So robust! A huge steel I-beam over two ham-thighed tree trunk poles.  No wimpy legal disclaimers, presumably because ordinary working folk can't afford fancy lawyers, and so won't sue. They just use common sense and don't do stupid things, instead. Park ratings
Scalded my tongue quite badly by drinking hot latte (bought at a drive-through just south of Tacoma) through a straw. I decided not to sue them...
A cold day, and my legs felt it.  I regretted not having packed my long winter underpants. "Long John Supplies Low," as S. put it.
I feel very arty writing in silver on black. Method
